Recycled Paper Manufacturing & Solutions
Union Paper Mills (UPM), established in 1987 as the UAE’s first recycled paper mill, is the centre of one of the region’s largest recovered-paper operations, and the Group runs every stage of it. UPM’s Recyclable Waste Management Division, with Etihad Waste Management and Al Dhafra Waste Collection, gathers around 42,000 tonnes of used paper and cardboard a month through nine yards and 200 collection vehicles across the UAE. Green Arabia adds cardboard recovered from the homes, hotels, malls and factories it serves, and Greenland Transport moves the material from yard to mill. Three paper machines in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, with a combined capacity of 416,000 tonnes a year, turn it into test liner, fluting, semi-kraft liner and core board for corrugated packaging manufacturers across the Gulf and international markets. The Solid Waste Management Division recovers usable fibre from what the machines reject and turns recovered wood into fuel for the Dubai mill’s boilers, so little of what enters the system is wasted.
